Print Quality Issues Troubleshooting FlowChart

This flowchart is to be used for primarily determining print quality problems on the following printers: NovaJet PRO 36, NovaJet PRO 50, NovaJet PROe, NovaJet PRO 600e, NovaJet 500, NovaJet 505, NovaJet 630, NovaJet 700, CADJET 3D, NovaJet 750, and NovaJet 850. This flowchart may aid in troubleshooting the NovaJet III, CADJET 2, NovaJet 4, NovaCut, and Croma24.

Please select the basic type of problem you are experiencing with printed output to further diagnose the problem from the 4 categories outlined below. Before contacting technical support please note the cooresponding number next to the symptom (s) which best illustrate your image output.

Incorrect Colors; Spot Colors Incorrect

Incorrect color laydown typically indicates a color mangement problem. Typically a complete color calibration of the scanner, monitor, printer, and profiling of the media type is necessary for a given environmental condition. A color management calibration of your system is probably required.

Horizontal Color Shifts; Microbanding; Print Swath Shifts

If the color changes slowly or drastically, from left to right, as the image is printed (i.e. where the color is a solid tone) then the printer, connectivity, or server hardware is typically at fault. Horizontal banding and print swath shifts are typically caused by the dirty or defective printer hardware or improper printer operations.

Vertical Color Shifts; Vertical Banding

If the color changes slowly vertically as the image is printed (i.e. where the original color is a solid tone) then the printer, connectivity, or server hardware is typically at fault. If vertical bands, vertical lines, or strange vertical patterns appear down the print then the printer hardware is usually at fault.

All Other Print Quality Problems

If the printed output exhibits random or inconsistent print patterns (spots on prints, ink starvation, protruding lines or swath shifts, incorrect Prime patterns, missing data, phantom patterns in color fills, severe microbanding or macrobanding) then the printer, network, server, or workstation hardware may be at fault. All ENCAD image quality problems are displayed here.
